Cultural Attention, Charted

Vol. 1 · No. 29 Week of August 17 – 23, 2026 MindShare v5.7 · US Attention-Hours

The MindShare Top 50

NFL Preseason Week 2 takes No. 1 at 23.3: exhibition football tops the chart in the quietest week of the cultural calendar. Four national windows across three networks did it: 3.40 million on ESPN Thursday, NFL Network Friday and Saturday, and 4.90 million for FOX’s Sunday-night Seahawks–Titans broadcast, the biggest preseason audience of the summer. Summed under the live-event rules, that is an est. 36.8M attention-hours: more than any premiere, any newscast, any podcast. Outer Banks had the week’s real launch event and it still was not enough: the final season went straight to Netflix’s global No. 1 with 80.6 million hours in four days and enters at No. 2 (20.2). A flagship farewell losing to football practice says more about late August than about either property.

The moves under the top are the story of a week waking up. Rosie O’Donnell’s guest week on Kimmel is the best 11:35 week of the summer: 2.167 million a night across four originals, 40% above the Anthony Anderson week, and No. 18 on the chart, up from No. 35. Scottie Scheffler’s BMW Championship duel put up the tournament’s largest audience since 2007 and lands at No. 7. Fever–Sky on NBC drew the biggest WNBA regular-season audience since 1997 and enters at No. 48. Meanwhile last week’s record-low No. 1, My Life With the Walter Boys, falls to No. 32, and Kai Cenat drops off the chart entirely from No. 8: the IShowSpeed marathon ended, and 15.4 million measured hours became 3.3 million. Music thins from four entries to two, and the week’s biggest album is the reason why that is honest: KATSEYE’s WILD took the Billboard 200 on 170,000 units, but 145,000 of those were CDs and vinyl. On time actually spent listening, 11.6 million US Spotify streams, they sit outside the fifty. Ella Langley holds at No. 29 as Choosin’ Texas ties the longest non-holiday run at No. 1 in Hot 100 history: week nineteen.

One reading note. Live-event figures are per-night Nielsen sums of each property’s national windows, and estimates are labelled as estimates. Anything without a published US number does not chart: this week that includes the Premier League’s opening weekend, which NBC did not report.
